Tomorrow’s Engineers Week runs from the 6^th–10^th November, it’s aim is to prove that Engineering can be a job for anyone! Following a hugely successful Lottie Tour in 2016, the Women in Engineering Society (WES) approached Lottie Dolls to run another this year – and this time it’s bigger and better!

WES President, Benita Mehra, loves the Lottie Tour initiative, "The Lottie Tour in 2016 was fabulous! Lottie drew attention to engineering and where women work in technical roles in a way that was magical. We know it had a huge impact with tweets and other mentions in social media as well as blogs on the WES and Lottie websites. This year the WES Young Members’ Board is making the tour bigger and better. I can't wait to see where Lottie gets to!”.

This years’ Lottie Tour is hosted by 25 of the Young Members’ Board (YMB), who are all taking Lottie to their workplace, including working at the University of Bristol, ARM and British Sugar. Jo Douglas, Chair of the YMB and organiser of this years’ tour said, “#LottieTour was really successful last year, and we wanted to build on that while doing something a bit different this year. It’s important to show that all girls can be engineers, and using a full range of dolls really supports this message. There’s nothing wrong with liking pink or being more stereotypically ‘girlie’ and still wanting to be an engineer!”.

The aim of the Lottie Tour is to help children see Lottie exploring STEAM opportunities, and hopefully they will be able to picture themselves pursuing similar passions now and in the future. Lottie is childhood focused, but there is no age to early to get involved in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Maths!

Our MD Ian Harkin wants Lottie to spark the imagination of children, saying, “We want our toys... to inspire hours of make-believe, to let children themselves set the rules. And – just maybe – those precious moments spent in exploration and invention, in childhood, will lay the foundations for incredible achievements in adulthood”.
